Passport Photos & Services

A passport is required for international travel, including entering and exiting most countries. Some domestic airlines and cruises may also require a passport, so it is important to check travel requirements beforehand.

Many countries require your U.S. passport to be valid for at least six months beyond your planned return date. Be sure to check your passport's expiration date to determine if you need a renewal before traveling. This rule helps protect travelers from unexpected delays when departing their destination. The U.S. State Department advises renewing your passport about nine months before it expires to avoid potential issues.

For your passport photo, follow these guidelines to ensure it meets government requirements:

• Clothing: Avoid wearing distracting patterns, uniforms, clothing that resembles a uniform, or camouflage. Wear everyday clothing.
• Head coverings: Remove hats or head coverings unless worn for religious or medical purposes. For religious headwear, include a signed statement indicating that it is worn daily in public for religious reasons. For medical headwear, provide a signed doctor's statement. Your full face must be visible, and the head covering cannot cast shadows or obscure your face.
• Accessories: Remove headphones and wireless hands-free devices. Jewelry and facial piercings are permitted if they do not hide or obscure your face.
• Face coverings: Remove any face coverings or medical masks to ensure your entire face is visible.

These guidelines help ensure your passport photo meets official standards and avoids delays during the application process.
