I was told by the clerks these are triggered by the size of the carton with no respect to the weight. Ok….but what exactly is a “demand - additional handling surcharge?” For example, what does the “demand” mean? I didn’t demand it. Second what “additional handling” am I paying a surcharge for exactly? Two guys needed to unload? Service to front door? A dolly needed? (None of these apply to my particular shipment by the way). I was disappointed that the clerks said they didn’t know exactly, they had never been in a delivery truck and I would have to ask a Fed ex truck driver. So I paid $300 and I still don’t know what for, except it was because my item was oversized. The real question is - how did my oversized item cause extra handling? The clerks should be able to answer this question. An idea would be to arrange trips with a delivery driver during their training.
